Chasing Sunsets

Yes, I caught myself doing it again last night, coming home from the grocery store, ice cream melting in the back seat as I went chasing the sunset to try to get a picture of the wonderful colors I saw in the sky.  Looking desperately for a clear view to admire the Great Artist’s Work.   I find myself doing this so frequently, I should know never to buy ice cream at dusk.  I finally find a spot to capture the colors on my cell phone, because of course I don’t have my digital camera with me, I sit there watching the sun go down, forgetting about my groceries, forgetting about any stress of the day, but being grateful that I have the eyes and the ability to see these magnificent colors.

I keep a gratitude journal and I must admit, although I try to write in in daily, I do miss a day or two sometimes. But I never miss a day that I don’t find something to be grateful for. I find that if I find at least one thing a day to be grateful for I am a much happier person; I become a more pleasant person to be around.  I also find that the Universe is blessing me every day with more things to be grateful about.  It seems that its telling me, that since I appreciate what is given to me, I will be given more.

They say if you want to break a habit you need to stop doing something for at least two weeks, the same is true for creating new ones.  Try keeping a gratitude journal every day for at least two weeks.  Write down at least four things you are grateful for. They don’t have to be large.  You can be grateful that your dog didn’t chew up anything that day.  (Yes, that’s been one of mine, I have puppy)  The journal doesn’t have to be fancy.  It can be one of those small little notebooks you get at the grocery store so you can carry it around with you all the time.  Eventually, I did find a nice hardback “Gratitude Journal” at a local office supply store, I love it.

Find those blessings you have taken for granted, you’ll then find more to be grateful about. You’ll start chasing sunsets, sunrises, and relishing the warmth of the sun on your skin. There is so much out there.  Thank you for reading this.  I am grateful that you do, you give me inspiration to put myself out there more and to continue this new endeavor.

I think it’s safe to say the beautiful sunsets you captured was well worth the ice cream melting 😄
