Share Your World – June 4, 2018

A piece of clothing from your younger childhood you still remember?

When I was just starting school, my very first day of first grade, my mother dressed me up in a frilly little dress and little patent leather shoes.  It’s the shoes that I remember.  Why?  Because, I never was a frilly little girl, I was the girl who played in mud puddles and stepped in mud puddles.  That’s exactly what I did in those pretty little shoes and “boy” did I get it when I got home.  My mom was so mad at me for ruining those shoes.

Before I severed my Achilles tendon I was in competitive dance skating. Having that little accident put an end to that dream real quick.  Dance skating would be the sport that would be first on my list.

In a car would you rather drive or be a passenger?00-meandmymiata-41667576215_A640

Oh my!  I just took pictures today of my little car.  I paid it off last month finally after 5 years and the speedometer rolled over to 30,000 miles.  It’s a beautiful day today, but a bit warm – 100 degrees outside this afternoon.  So, you see, I don’t drive a whole lot, but I love to drive the convertible on a sunny day and when I do, I go Zoom, Zoom in my Miata.  I can’t drive far because of my eyes, so I like to be a passenger on road trips.

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week?

This past weekend, as you know if you follow my blog I went to the Denver Chalk Art Festival in downtown Denver.  I’ve lived in this area now for 29 years and seldom would go downtown. I wouldn’t go for several reasons.  I absolutely hate to drive in downtown traffic, I hate to drive when I don’t know the streets that well ( it gives me anxiety, even if I use a GPS) and the parking – don’t get me started, finding it and the expensive 20-24.00 cost.

Now there’s LightRail, I’m old  🙂 , I get a senior citizen discount.  It only costs me 2.60 for a full day’s pass.  I love it, so I’ve been going more frequently.  There is a free “Mall Ride” that takes you from the train station to the 16th Street Mall.  All of this is enough to make me appreciate this service and make me smile.

But – what really made me smile in the middle of my bus ride this weekend was the sudden realization I was looking at my city with renewed eyes, with the same eyes that I use when I visit all the new cities that I’ve visited around the world.  I was viewing my city with appreciation and exploring all it’s unique eateries and events it has to offer and enjoying every moment.

Hahaha boy that was me to a T as a child. It reminded me of a time we were dressed to go somewhere. I was sent to retrieve something off the clothes line for my baby brother but…..the boys next door were using a large mud puddle as a slide. Lucky to have survived that one. Lol

You don’t get a lot of mileage on our car. When I lived in the Denver area, we always lived on the outskirts of town, so driving the the Tech Center for work or the Industrial part (off I-76) we really ran up our mileage. It’s already 100 degrees there, Yikes. 😀

I live almost in the tech center and within 10 miles of everything I need, except my daughter.😊
