Tuesdays of Texture

Tuesdays of Texture

AthensAncientMosaic-DSC00106-800

Imagine if you will, the times that these mosaics were commonplace, the times when you casually walked across them and didn’t give them a second thought.  Today in Athens, you find them scattered in the most unlikely places as you walk through the markets, the parks and the streets of the city.   When I saw these mosaic floors in the expanses of fields and archeological excavations I thought about how it might have been and how the everyday life of the Athenian was, how they traversed throughout the city that I was walking through, exploring and now following in their footsteps.

Mosaics amaze me. All the work that goes into making them. Whenever I find one, I always have to stop and look and take in the details, the colors, textures, tile/glass used, etc. There’s always to much to see and imagine.

isn’t it incredible that thousands of years ago, the Greeks built such mosaic walkways that stood the test of time. Sometimes we wonder what legacy we will leave behind and how it would look like 2000 years later
