Tuesday Photo Challenge – Healthy
Healthy for me is not only eating and living healthy but being able to walk and explore the cities that I travel to on a regular basis. With fibromyalgia, sometimes this isn’t an easy task, but you need to learn to pace yourself and know when to rest and enjoy the scenery, talk to the locals and learn about your surroundings.
On my last trip to Athens, I experienced a fibro flare and really needed to push myself to even get out of bed most days. The thing is, staying in bed hurt almost as much as moving and I wasn’t about to miss out on the Athens’ experience because of this problem. I needed to figure out how to accomplish this without killing myself.
I did and made a lot of friends along the path. Got in some very fun flirting along the way as well. 🙂
Here are some screen captures of my walks. Note, I did not win races with my walks, and it took me HOURS to walk where I did. Staying moving, staying motivated and knowing that I can enjoy what I can despite my body protesting on this vacation, encouraged me to keep up the fight and not give into this chronic illness. I use an app called Map My Walk when I travel. Not only does it help me with my mileage, it keeps me from getting lost. LOL
I always reward myself during these walks as well. It helps keep me motivated, I buy myself a piece of jewelry to bring back home. So every outing brought me a new bracelet, ring or necklace. However, there was this one day, I pampered my feet. (it tickled a little, but felt so good afterward and refreshing!)
That is a great way not to get lost by using the app. I’ve never thought of that. I’ll have to remember that when I start traveling, hopefully sometime soon 🙂
