Old Pulteney Single Malt Scotch

Once upon a time I visited Edinburgh, Scotland on a little adventure during an exciting time, the Fringe Festival.  I had never really tasted a good scotch before and as on all my trips, I love to taste the local cuisine and drinks.  This day, however, I had no idea what I should choose.  As I sat myself down in a very busy little bar on the Royal Mile, a cute, young twenty-one-year-old bartender asked me what I would like to drink.  I explained my dilemma and asked his advice.  This is what he said.  “A good single malt scotch is the best.  What would you like?  A 7-year-old scotch?”

I said, “What is better than a 7-year-old scotch?  He said there was a 14-year-old scotch, but if I really wanted a good scotch there was a 21-year-old scotch, but it cost a lot of money.  I asked how much.  It wasn’t that much.  I purchased my shot of 21-year-old scotch from the handsome 21-year-old Scot, proceeded to sit outside at the tables to watch the entertainers and carry on a wonderful conversation with an 80-year-old Scotsman who joined me at my table. It turned out to be an amazing afternoon.
