Sugar's Story

Hi, My name is Sugar, I'm a 6 year old Australian Shepherd and I live in Colorado with my adopted Mom, Candy and my brother, Hunter (a tri-black Aussie) and my little sister, Chloe ( a black and tan miniature dachshund).

Can you imagine? It's only been a little over a year since I came to live with my new "Mom" Candy?  For some strange reason I had found myself at the Colorado Humane Society all alone and scared.  Then on July 14, 2003, this nice lady came to visit me.  She was very sad, because she had just lost one of her best friends, a little boy Australian Shepherd named Shiloh and just a year before that her other best friend, another Australian Shepherd named Moxie.  Both of these friends were tri-black Aussies and here I am a Blue Merle Australian Shepherd needing a home.  But... there was an 8 month old Australian Shepherd little boy here in the pound with me and Candy needed some young pup to cheer her up and give her some reassurance that he'd be around a long time.

Fortunately, the director of the Humane Society could tell that Candy was having a hard time deciding between me and this young tri-black Australian Shepherd little boy and suggested that Candy take both of us home.  The Director knew that Candy loved Aussies and would be a good Mom to both of us and guess what!  Candy took us both home!  YEA!!!!!

I was scared and really didn't know what was going on, but it sure was nice to have someone to take care of me, instead of being in that scary kennel at the Humane Society.  All that Candy knew was that I had been a stray, but she could tell I was very well behaved. Little did she know what else I could do.

I got to know Mom better and started trusting her when I had to have surgery immediately after she brought me home.  I hurt so bad, but Mom stayed up with me all night.  Gee.. that was great.  After that Mom and I just understood each other and I started showing her what I had learned before I knew her.

Now, I volunteer at Littleton Adventist Hospital and am a registered Delta Society Denver Pet Partner and am just starting on new adventures.  This is my website to tell you how I'm doing.
